    • Filter by monitored areas
    • iOS and Android, free
    • Official support from Emergency Medical Service and Mountain Rescue Service

    Cons

    What is Záchranka?

Záchranka is the official Czech app connected to the medical emergency service. With a single button, you can call for help and your GPS location is immediately sent to the operator - which, in a forest, on a ski slope, or a cycling path, is a crucial difference between "somewhere near Brno" and a precise coordinate.

Why you should have it on your phone

Besides the emergency button, it has an Emergency Alerts module - crisis alerts from regions, cities, the Mountain Rescue Service, and CHMI (Czech Hydrometeorological Institute). You'll receive a push notification when the monitored area is dealing with:

    • drinking water contamination
    • chemical accidents
    • discovery of unexploded ordnance
    • quarantine
    • avalanche danger (Mountain Rescue Service)
    • extreme weather events (CHMI)

It complements the state warning system - it doesn't replace it, but often arrives sooner and with specific instructions.

    Who is it for

    • For everyone in the Czech Republic. Even if you don't travel, it's worth having on your mobile.
    • For tourists in the mountains. The Mountain Rescue Service has its own areas and will send you warnings about avalanches or deteriorating weather.
    • For parents. The emergency button is so simple that even a panicking teenager can manage it.

    How to set it up

    1. Download from the App Store / Google Play (free).
    2. In the top right corner of the main screen, you'll find the Warning alerts module.
    3. Select the regions and areas where you live or move around.
    4. Turn on notifications.

And done - you don't have to do anything else. The app works in the background.

    Where it works

Warning alerts currently cover: Prague, Central Bohemian, South Moravian, Plzeň, Karlovy Vary, Pardubice, Olomouc, Hradec Králové regions, Vysočina, the cities of Brno, Plzeň, Karlovy Vary, Sokolov, areas of the Mountain Rescue Service and CHMI. Emergency calls, of course, work throughout the entire Czech Republic.

    My verdict

This is the one app everyone living in or traveling through the Czech Republic should have on their phone. The emergency button with GPS location will save someone's life one day - and until then, it won't get in your way. Crisis alerts are an added bonus that often arrive sooner than anything else in practice.
