What is SL?
SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik) runs Stockholm's public transport — metro (tunnelbana), commuter trains, trams, buses and ferries across the whole Stockholm region. The app replaces paper tickets and removes the need for a plastic SL Access card.
How it works
- Download SL: Journey planner & tickets (App Store / Google Play)
- Sign up with email and add a card (Visa, Mastercard, Apple/Google Pay)
- Buy a single ticket or a 24h / 72h / 7-day pass
- Tap your phone against the blue reader on the metro gates
Prices (2026)
- 75 min ticket: 42 SEK (~€3.7)
- 24h pass: 175 SEK (~€15)
- 72h pass: 350 SEK (~€30)
- 7-day pass: 455 SEK (~€40)
Passes cover the entire SL network including the Flygbussarna airport bus (Arlanda Express is separate).
Practical tips
- The app also handles journey planning — no need to juggle Google Maps and a separate ticket app.
- Buy tickets over Wi-Fi in advance so you don't have to fight bad signal at the station.
- The 24h pass starts counting from the first tap-in, not from purchase — buy it in the morning and activate it when you actually travel.
My verdict
If you're in Stockholm for more than a day, the SL app is a no-brainer. A 72h pass pays for itself in a few metro rides and you skip the hassle of hunting down an SL Access card. I use it every time I travel to Sweden.
